7th Annual Celebrity Chef Cook-Off Saturday, March 28 6:00 p.m.
The Celebrity Chef cook-off is an event to help raise money for the Fayette County Colon Cancer Network and the Colon Cancer Alliance.
What is Colon Cancer?
Colon cancer is the second deadliest, yet preventable, cancer in the United States. Through education, the number of colon cancer related deaths can decrease by 66%.
To achieve his goal of education, Chef Joe Carei, owner of Caileigh’s Restaurant in Uniontown, started the Celebrity Chef Cook off.
“This event is a very personal one for me. Four years ago, I faced the toughest challenge of my life as I fought colon cancer. While recovering from surgery, I asked 14 people from the community and beyond, to cook in my place at Caileigh’s restaurant, including two former NFL linemen, a Pittsburgh sportscaster, a judge, a mayor, a couple of ministers, and many others. For two weeks, one by one, each took their turn creating a four- course meal for our guests. Shortly after, the concept for “Chef Joe’s ‘Celebrity’ Chef Cook off” was conceived as an opportunity for myself and others in the community to help others facing this same struggle,” said Carei.
